needs to check out MEZMERIZE from SYSTEM OF A DOWN. ... i always liked this band, and respected them for doing something unique, but when i finally got this disc and heard it from start to finish i was pretty much stupefied. every track is outrageous, except for 'old school hollywood', which i feel drags down an otherwise great disc. 'radio/video' and 'violent pornography' are my personal faves. the real beauty of this release is that it is the first installment of an unconventional double album. HYPNOTIZE will be hitting shelves soon, and i can't wait.

things i HATE

radio stations. ... ESPECIALLY the ones that think they are hot shit (94cough7coughthecoughzone) but then edit the hell out of perfectly good songs. they played 'unglued' (stp) on extreme zone the other night and at first i got really excited. one, because i love purple, and two, that song is NEVER on the radio. but my excitment turned to LOATHING when not only did they edit out 'masturbation', they cut out an entire verse and chorus!! really? what's the fucking point? and as for cutting morello's guitar solo in half every time they play 'killing in the name of' ... well. i can't respect a station that claims itself to be the greatest rock station in chicago when they won't air entire songs and they MAIM a killer lead by the man who has been called our generation's only guitar hero. ... and q101? i respected you for a while (inspite of mansheep) when you still played 'man in the box' without alteration. but how exactly do you bury someone in spit? ... ... then again, local showcase did allow the buzz spectors to drop five f-bombs when they aired 'beercan', so... i don't know... ... bottom line: don't tease me with a good song if you're going to BUTCHER it.

the cardigans / first band on the moon

by far, sweater (big warm fuzzy) pop is one of my favorire genres, and they (and to a lesser extent Tahiti80) define it. . . the whole thing is cool, but specifically the B side's "losers" and HOLY FUCK! their cover of "iron man" is the greatest thing ever.

soundgarden / down on the upside

i'll say it again: there's lots of great shit on here, and none of it is the singles. check out "rhinoceros" and "dusty" . . . B side is less impressive but a couple of them are still expermental and interesting. "the day i tried to live" should have been on this album...

i just rediscovered one of the best bands i've ever seen. . . (thank god for google and half a brain) plan on ordering a couple of albums to indulge myself in thick, droning, psych rock. check out deadmeadow.com for mp3s.
